The beginning of belief

I recently read 2 books by the late Leslie Newbigin that both posed the idea that all belief starts with faith. No matter what foundational belief a person starts with or builds the rest of their beliefs on or around they accept it on faith. By faith I mean blindly believing in something that they have not personally proved true themselves. Some examples would be: that there is no God, that there is a God and Jesus his his son, that accident, chance, and evolution created the world we live in, that a Higher Being created it, that aliens came and established life on our earth, that the mafia had JFK killed, that nutritional supplements will improve my health, that doctor prescribed allergy medicine will get rid of the symptoms of my allergies, that my mechanic is honest and my car really does need a new head gasket, that the cost of replacing that head gasket really is that expensive. He used this point of view about everything starting from faith as an argument against the idea of there being a neutral view from which to view life. Thus evolution is no more a neutral(opinion-free) point of view than a creational view, capitalism nor more opinion-free than socialism, literalistic interpretation of anyone's holy scriptures no more opinion-free than more metaphorical understandings. Thus we enter the wrong argument when we try to prove the Christian faith true through rational and scientific argument. This is because the idea that rational understanding and the belief that only what can be seen and repeated (science) are true are distinctly un-christian ideals. The Christian faith is based largely on the belief of what can not be seen and we see the characters of the Bible in obedience to God constantly doing things that are completely irrational. The beginning point that Christianity starts from is one that believes in the supernatural(God, the unseen, acting in history, the seen) and one that acts from different and often irrational values(Blessed are the poor, weak, humble, trusting God and not worrying about the future). There is a time and place for rational thinking and the scientific method. I'm glad pharmaceutical companies use them in testing new drugs. But not all of life is best observed on a slide under a microscope.
This being the case I think it more clear than ever to me how important it is for me to teach my children that there are other places to start from in looking at life and to vigilantly be listening to things I say and think looking for where rationality and scientific method have become the controlling center of my thinking.
